South African reality TV has really experienced a boom over the past two years
Although we have more options to choose from than ever, one show is making a beeline for the top. Uthando Nes’thembu, the reality show that follows the life of a polygamous man and his multiple wives, is one of Mzansi Magic’s hottest shows for a good reason!
The broadcasting research council of South Africa just released its most recent television ratings. These monthly figures offer some insight into which television shows are attracting the most viewers across various genres, and when it comes to reality TV, Mzansi Magic’s shows are killing it.
We know all about Our Perfect Wedding and Date My Family, which are currently the first and second most-watched reality shows on the channel (and in the country) but Uthando Nes’thembu is now sitting comfortably in third place.

The show trends on a weekly basis and it was no surprise to see that 692 793 people tuned in to watch every episode of the show in the month of June. This outperformed many of the channel’s popular reality shows including Living the Dream With Somizi, which attracted 425 820 viewers just before it concluded its most recent season.
