From Monday, 04 July, SABC 3 will introduce to its new line-up, a crop of lifestyle variety entertainment shows with the aforementioned trio scoring new shows as a result.
Mbau and Joe will host a three-hour morning show from 09 July between 6:30 - 9:00 called The Weekend Edition. The show will offer style, personality, interaction, active digital and social media discourse and creativity.
“It will air every Saturday and Sunday. It’s shot in Cape Town, so I will be moving to Cape Town basically so I can do the show,” Mbau said.
“Phat Joe and I are forward-thinking people and highly-opinionated when it comes to a lot of things. So the SABC has given us a show to air our viewers,” Mbau excitedly expressed after the announcement was made.
“I’m excited about moving to Cape Town. I love Cape Town.”
Similarly, Mdoda will host a daytime variety and talk show from 21 July at 16:00.
The show will feature topical social commentary on current events, entertaining and informative interviews from SA’s top celebs, entertainers, sporting figures, web celebs and online influencers.
But the trio are not the only ones that have hit it big. Comedian Jason Goliath will host an entertainment-based in-studio comedy talk show with a focus on celebrity interviews with a live studio audience. Titled ‘Larger than life’, the show will debut on 4 July at 22:00.
“As an organization we are moving towards an era of great transformation in terms of programming, where all these changes are aimed at placing our audience’s needs and wants,” SABC Chief Operations Officer (COO) Hlaudi Motsoeneng expressed in a statement.
“The SABC firmly believes in delivering on its mandate to promote local content and this decision to increase the local quota on television will not only yield an increased audience share, but will further contribute to the South African public being proud of its quality local content.”
