Teko Modise’s football intelligence and versatility is what drew Cape Town City owner John Comitis to the veteran midfielder.

Modise was unveiled by City on Wednesday after he left Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of last month in the search for more regular game-time.

“For me‚ he is the final piece of the puzzle in terms of competing for silverware next season‚” Comitis said.

“Intelligent footballers are hard to come by and he is certainly one of them.

“Added to that‚ he can step into a number of different positions so he gives us so many options of how to play.

“He can take the pressure off a guy like [Lebogang] Manyama‚ who now maybe does not have to play 30 games in the season.

“We can also‚ if we choose too‚ now push Manyama further forward into more of a striking position‚ because Modise can slot into his current role.

“Also‚ with the recent injury to [Aubrey] Ngoma‚ we wanted to bring in somebody with experience who could maintain that high level in the team which we set last year.

“We need to do this because we want to be in the hunt for the league title‚ that has to be our aim this season.”

Modise has signed a two-year contract and will wear the number 13 jersey at City.

Former Bafana Bafana coach Shakes Mashaba’s son reportedly borrowed R4.6 million from David Mokoatsi, who won R23 million jackpot in 2015, and is now failing to pay him back.

Mokoatsi reportedly told Sunday World that he lent his church mate the money after he told him he wanted to buy out his business partner from a Pick n Pay franchise they owned in Springs.

As part of the deal, Mashaba allegedly guaranteed Mokoatsi 35% of his shares in case he failed to pay back the money. The lawyers apparently drafted the agreement which Mashaba was reportedly happy with.

However, in papers filed in the South Gauteng High Court seen by the publication, Mokoatsi claims Mashaba has only repaid R880 000 of the loan which was made in 2015 and was meant to be paid back in instalments over 25 months.

Mokoatsi the sent a letter of demand to Mashaba, who allegedly ignored it, leading him to cancel the loan agreement, demanding the outstanding amount.

Now the Lotto winner says he is broke as he spent the rest of his winnings on properties, cars and donations to their church.

In his responding affidavit, Mashaba reportedly does not deny borrowing the money, though he says he believed it was “premature” of his friend to institute legal action as he had not defaulted on their agreement.

He further told the publication that the loan was unlawful and void, saying the court should dismiss Mokoatsi’s application as he was not a registered credit provider and could therefore not offer loans of more than R1.5 million.

He also said he did not understand how Mokoatsi came to a figure of R3.6 million as an outstanding balance and could therefore not respond properly to his application.

A warrant of arrest for Brilliant Khuzwayo has been issued after the Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper missed his court appearance.

According to The Sowetan, Khuzwayo was scheduled to appear at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on January 27 for allegedly interfering with police duties in December.

The Chiefs goalie is alleged to have held back police as they tried to arrest his friend at his home in Dainfern Estate.

He was arrested and made his first appearance at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court, where a bail of R1 500 was set.

The matter was then remanded to January 27.

Khuzwayo allegedly failed to appear in court on the set date, and a warrant of arrest was authorised on February 1.

Police spokesperson Kay Makhubele said the court gave Khuzwayo 10 days to explain why he missed his court date.

Motaung was one of the many dignitaries who were at OR Tambo International Airport to welcome new African champions and a playful Mbalula couldn't resist taking a dig at him.

"I want to say today because Bobby Motaung is here representing Kaizer Chiefs‚ that team that loses every weekend.............." he said to howls of laughter.

"But I am happy that Bobby is here because all of us all of us today are Kaizer Chiefs.

"No‚ no‚ no‚ no we are Mamelodi Sundowns. I was just messing with him."

Chiefs have been accused of having an indifferent attitude towards Caf competitions and often gave the impression they would be happier jumping off the top of Carlton Centre than playing on the continent.

Pirates are the only other South African team to have won the Champions League - they won it in 1995 - and the Bucs have never shied away from continental duties.

"I want to make him (Motaung) feel how nice it is to have a star (the star that is placed above a club or a national team badge after winning a continental or world title)‚" Mbalula said.

"I do not want him to go and get a star from the ZCC (Zion Christian Church)."

Chiefs are not the only teams in the PSL to have an indifferent attitude towards Caf competitions and even Wits and Ajax have been guilty of having a similar position.

Former Kaizer Chiefs‚ Orlando Pirates‚ Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana coach Ted Dumitru collapsed in a shopping mall and was rushed to hospital on Thursday‚ but could not be saved.

He was 76 years old.

South African Football Association confirmed in a tweet on Thursday.

Dumitru led Kaizer Chiefs to back-to-back PSL titles between 2004 and 2005. He also coached Orlando Pirates. Details are still sketchy at the moment stage but centre management is expected to release a statement related to an incident in the mall later on Thursday.

Dumitru last worked as a technical director for Mamelodi Sundowns‚ where he won back-to-back Premier Soccer League titles in 1997-98 and 1998-99.
He repeated that feat with Kaizer Chiefs in 2003-04‚ 2004-05‚ for a total of four league titles‚ a number that has only been equalled by Gordon Igesund.

He coached Bafana at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt‚ where they failed to win a game to exit in the first round.

Dumitru moved to South Africa‚ via coaching stints in the rest of Africa‚ from native Romania in 1985.

SILENCE and long grass surrounds the house where Senzo died.


But there is no ghost to be seen.
The man who claims to have bought the house and who lives there said there is no ghost.
“Everyone sleeps peacefully,” he said.
“Just because there is long grass in the yard doesn’t mean that there is a ghost.”
The house at Kutlwanong Street in Vosloorus, Ekurhuleni, Gauteng where Senzo Meyiwa, the late Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, was shot dead, used to belong to Kelly Khumalo’s mother.
The new owners said they are not experiencing any strange events.
Neighbours told news source they get along well with the new owners of the house.
They said they are tired of rumours surrounding the house and they don’t see any ghost playing soccer in the neighbourhood, as people claim.
“People ask us about Senzo’s ghost all the time,” said a neighbour.
“We don’t know about any ghost!”
Reports on social platforms have been saying the house has a ghost that gives people sleepless nights. They also said the ghost is heard playing soccer on the roof and in the yard.
A neighbour told the sources that Kelly’s family moved out of the house just days after Senzo was killed.
Kelly’s sister Zandi told news source she didn’t want to speak about the ghost, the house, or whether it had new owners.
“I’m going to hang up now,” she said and ended the call.

The Teletubbies drama between Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane and sports anchor Robert Marawa played itself out this week.


According to Sunday World ,  Mosimane rejected Marawa's invite for an interview on Metro FM sports show 083 Sports@6 with Robert Marawa on Thursday night.
That's because the coach was retaliating against Marawa for snubbing him at the Telkom Knockout final post-match interview at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Wednesday night.
Marawa was then forced to interview Mosimane's assistant coach Rhulani Mokoena on radio after the former Bafana Bafana mentor gave him the cold shoulder.
At the stadium, Mosimane, whose team trounced Kaizer Chiefs 3-1 to clinch the trophy, was interviewed by Marawa's colleague Phumlani Msibi.
Msibi then announced that he was handing over the ropes to Marawa to interview Chiefs' coach Steve Khompela.
Usually one anchor interviews both coaches.
But the latest Tinky Winky episode between the two happened, despite suggestions by Marawa's boss at SuperSport, Imtiaz Patel, that they would not tolerate personal grudges on their TV shows.
SuperSport spokesman Clinton van der Berg said: "There is no issue. As per the producer's discretion... Robert was assigned Chiefs and Phumlani was assigned Sundowns. Any suggestion of anything improper with this arrangement is mischievous."
Sundowns spokesman Thulani Thuswa confirmed Mosimane was invited by Metro FM, but did not honour the invite.
"The coach was not well, that's why we sent Rhulani and the players to the interview," he said.
SABC spokesman Kaizer Kganyago confirmed Mosimane failed to pitch up for the interview.
"The SABC invited him via the team," said Kganyago. "They came back and said he was not available and that Rhulani and the players would attend the show."
But sources at both the SABC and SuperSport maintain the beef between the two men runs deep and will not end any time soon.
Their beef, according to one SABC insider, started in 2010 when Mosimane took over as Bafana Bafana coach and fired Marawa's sister Gugu from the national team.
She was the assistant team manager.
According to a source at SuperSport: "Marawa's producer Beverly Maphangwa extended the invite to Mosimane . She sent it to the club's communication team. But Mosimane told the communication team he was not interested because of how he was treated at the post-match interview on Wednesday. He was right. Since when does SuperSport use two anchors in post-match interviews?
"This was a ruse to protect Marawa's shenanigans. This is childish and somebody must stop it."
Another tipster, a Mamelodi Sundowns club official who did not want to be named, confirmed Mosimane was pissed off with how Marawa treated him on Wednesday.
"It was choreographed to make sure Robert does not interview Pitso," said the official.
"This was meant to embarrass him [Pitso].
"After refusing to go to the interview, we sent our goalkeeper and coach Rhulani Mokoena to represent the club."

But his former business manager Phumza Nohashe has since issued him with a letter of demand , requesting payment for her unpaid services for securing him the R1-million deal three years ago.
Khune, however, rejected Nohashe's claim, saying he had paid her in full.
According to his new manager Thato Matuka: "I engaged Itu on this matter. As far as he is concerned, Ms Nohashe had been settled in two installments."
But Matuka could not provide the dates on which the two payments were made.

Nohashe was adamant that Khune never coughed up a single cent of her 10% of the pie, but said she had decided to move on.

The club has announced in a press statement that players would be attending the Motsepe Foundation Christmas event despite their much anticipated clash with Orlando Pirates on Sunday.
Pitso’s side will take on Eric Tinkler’s troops at the Loftus Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Sundowns have may won Wednesday night’s Telkom Knockout final‚ but the Presidency said it was the South African National Aids Council (Sanac) that “scored big”.

“Sanac distributed half a million condoms to the approximately 56000 football supporters at the Moses Mabhida Stadium as part of its ongoing campaign to promote healthy lifestyles and urge South Africans to abstain‚ be faithful‚ condomise and circumcise in the fight against HIV and Aids‚” the Presidency said.
Cyril Ramaphosa‚ the country’s deputy president and Sanac chairperson‚ “commended the match organisers‚ sponsors‚ fans and the 25 volunteers who distributed the condoms for making the HIV-awareness activation a success”.
Ramaphosa “wished all South Africans a safe and enjoyable festive break and called on citizens and all sectors of society to make the achievement of an HIV-free South Africa a priority”‚ a statement said.
Sundowns won the match against Kaizer Chiefs 3-1.

Orlando Pirates earned their second successive Absa Premiership win on Wednesday night when they beat Ajax Cape Town 2-1 at Cape Town Stadium.
The Buccaneers started the better of the two teams and created their first chance on goal in the tenth minute when Kermit Erasmus slipped Thabo Rakhale through on goal, but he shot over with just the keeper to beat.
Eight minutes later Erasmus found the back of the net when he headed home a right wing cross from Ntsikelelo Nyauza, 1-0.
In the 23rd minute Pirates doubled their lead when a through ball from Thandani Ntshumayelo saw Lehlohonolo Majoro with only the keeper to beat and he made no mistake to make it 2-0.
Four minutes later Ajax were able to pull a goal back when Toriq Losper turned home a left-wing cross from Riyaad Norodien at close range, 2-1.
Ajax finished the stronger of the two teams in the opening half and almost pulled level in the 43rdminute when Granwald Scott unleashed a thunderous 22-yard shot, but he was superbly denied by the keeper.
The half ended 2-1 in favour of Pirates.
The Buccaneers had the first real effort on goal ten minutes into the second half when Menzi Masuku unleashed a powerful 22-yard strike which was superbly turned over the post by the palm of the Ajax keeper.
In the 62nd minute Abbubaker Mobara should have equalised for Ajax when he broke behind the Pirates defence in a counter-attack, but he was superbly denied, twice, by the keeper who made a double save.
Four minutes later Nathan Pualse came close to scoring for Ajax, but he headed a Franklin Cale corner inches over the target.
In the 78th minute Losper thought he had scored his second of the night, but saw his 20-yard shot strike the woodwork and bounce away from danger.
Ajax pushed hard for an equaliser in the final ten minutes, but Pirates held on for the win and the three points.

Cavin Johnson, the PSL’s Coach of the Month for September and October, believes that Masibusane Zongo has some of the same trait as Barcelona’s Lionel Messi.
The tricky 25-year-old has had a topsy-turvy career over the years, with personal and off-the-field issues interfering with his performances so much that he has never played more than six games in a single Absa Premiership season.
Now, having played six of Platinum Stars’ eight games so far, it looks as though, with Johnson’s help, the talented Zongo has managed to get his career back on track, and his coach thinks he can go on to even bigger things.
Speaking after being handed his monthly award, Johnson told the media, “When I look at Lionel Messi, and the way he holds and moves the ball, I think if Zongo can mature quick enough then I’m sure he can do that overseas…
“We crave for that kind of intelligence on the ball and that technique, if he can do that constructively going forward then I believe then he has a shot of having at least one or two seasons overseas.”
Stars face Bidvest Wits tomorrow night as they look to keep up their fine unbeaten start to the season against a team that can leapfrog them to go top of the league depending on other results.

Orlando Pirates have announced that the club’s partnership with Peugeot has come to an end.
The French-based company has been the official vehicle partner for Pirates for the past four years.
The Buccaneers have thanked Peugeot and wished them well in their future endeavours.
“The partnership between Orlando Pirates and Peugeot has come to an end. After four wonderful years the French based company has opted not to renew its contract with the 2015 CAF Confederations Cup finalists.
“Peugeot, who had been the Official Vehicle Partner for Orlando Pirates since 2011, supplied the Club a comprehensive range of vehicles that were used by the Club for their daily activities. “During this period, Orlando Pirates went on to secure their second treble in as many seasons and also reached the final of the prestigious CAF Champions League final in 2013.

The French-based company has been the official vehicle partner for Pirates for the past four years.
The Buccaneers have thanked Peugeot and wished them well in their future endeavours.
“The partnership between Orlando Pirates and Peugeot has come to an end. After four wonderful years the French based company has opted not to renew its contract with the 2015 CAF Confederations Cup finalists.
“Peugeot, who had been the Official Vehicle Partner for Orlando Pirates since 2011, supplied the Club a comprehensive range of vehicles that were used by the Club for their daily activities. “During this period, Orlando Pirates went on to secure their second treble in as many seasons and also reached the final of the prestigious CAF Champions League final in 2013.
“Orlando Pirates Football Club would like to thank Peugeot for their wonderful service during the course of the partnership and we would also like to wish the company all the best in their future endeavours as they continue to compete in the highly competitive yet fragile vehicle market,” Bucs confirmed on the club’s official website.
