Black Coffee has become the first South African artist to walk away with a BET Award in the category, "Best International Act — Africa".
Following House maestro Black Coffee's big win on Saturday a crop of Mzansi starlets ruled the red carpet at the BET Awards' main event on Sunday night.
The awards are being held in Los Angeles and Black Coffee beat out the likes of AKA‚ Cassper Nyovest‚ Diamond Platnumz‚MzVee‚ Serge Beynaud‚ Wizkid and Yemi Alade.
Wearing an olive green suit‚ the DJ thanked South African fans for their support.
Soon after news of the award went viral the DJ has been inundated with messages of support from fans and fellow musicians.
In a lengthy note Coffee expressed:
For the past 4/5 years I have been doing tours outside my Country.....in the last two years even relocating my Family with me while on tour to make everything work.....Taking our South African Music to places I can't even pronounce....I'm Greatful to my lady @enhlembali_ and my kids for allowing me to chase my dreams unconditionally.......my great team @amarudacosta @lionelmarciano and both offices in SA and NY....Universal Music team in SA.....Ultra Music team in NY and the William Morris Team in LA.....a BET Award comes to our our Land for the first time......This is a Great Honour.....We did not do this alone...Thank you for all your Votes.....Thank you for the Love.
Wife and actress Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa was there by his side sporting a longsleeve gold embellished little number.
Fellow nominee and South African rapper AKA was also in attendance.
The Baddest hit-maker was twinning with partner Bonang Matheba in modern minimalism get-ups.
"Look, Black Coffee and me don't really dig each other, but I respect him and his art. I acknowledge him for the pioneer he is," AKA wrote on Twitter after losing out to Coffee.
"South Africa winning is all we should care about.
