House band Uhuru is heading for splitsville following squabbles over money. The disagreement even resulted in the Y-Tjukutja hitmakers snubbing a music concert organised by "kwaito king" Arthur Mafokate last Sunday.

The band, made up of Sihle "DJ Clap" Dlalisa, Themba "Maphorisa" Sekowe, Nqobile "Mapiano" Mahlangu and Xelimpilo "Xeli" Simelane, has been torn into two factions. The outfit, booked to perform at Mafokate's Can Do Festival at Sinaba Stadium in Daveyton, east of Joburg, failed to do so.
According to partygoers, only Mapiano and Xeli performed during the show, while Maphorisa and DJ Clap left before the band got on stage.
Uhuru boss at Kalawa Jazmee Oscar "DJ Oskido" Mdlongwa confirmed there was trouble in paradise, saying the outfit was facing "serious challenges". Oskido said he would convene a meeting soon to sort out the house band's differences once they all "become sober minded and realise Uhuru is the brand that puts food on their tables and feeds their families".
A source close to the group claimed Xeli and Mapiano had decided to do their own thing because Oskido was failing to resolve their issues.
The source, who asked not to be named, added that Mdlongwa had been calling meetings with the group.

But Maphorisa's failure to attend them stifled efforts to find a solution. According to Mdlongwa: "It's not true that Maphorisa has refused to come to a meeting."
Mapiano and Xeli were also pointing fingers at Maphorisa, claiming he had been doing his own thing outside Uhuru, which was the reason behind the group's problems. "Maphorisa has been doing his own thing and wants everything concerning Uhuru to be centred around him," said Mapiano. Xeli said: "I don't want to sound like I'm damaging the Uhuru brand. Ask Maphorisa to tell you everything and I will comment after." Mafokate confirmed he had booked Uhuru, but was shocked that only two members from the group had performed
