Actress Kelly Khumalo is anticipated to be one of the Guest Judges of the Idols SA Judging panel.

Following the resignation Gareth Cliff from the Idols SA Judging panel after the completion of the currently concluded season, Mzansi Magic through its PR Nondumiso Mabece said there won’t be any replacement for former judge. Gareth Cliff has been on Idols SA judging panel for the past 11 seasons.

Also,  Nondumiso said that they will not confirm names of judges until their contracts are signed, but there will be four guest judges in all four cities.

Kelly shared the stage with season 12’s runner-up, Thami Shobede, at the grand finale so was that a hint to her taking up a seat on the panel?

The auditions take place in Cape Town, Durban, Johannesburg and Pretoria.

Former Idols SA judge and Cliff Central founder Gareth Cliff has slammed a “sensational” and “misleading” headline that said he had admitted to giving his former colleague Mara Louw a “spiked” drink.

Cliff trended on Twitter on the weekend after the Sunday Times reported Cliff admitted in his book that he gave Louw the drink that led to her much-publicised behaviour on the show. As a result, her contract was never renewed.

Cliff said the reporting was “fallacious” and that the matter was “in the hands of my legal team”, further urging fans to read the “actual” story of what exactly happened in his new book.

“I’m used to newspapers getting it wrong, twisting a line out of context, concocting a provocative headline to sell enough of their papers to stave off the inevitable decline of profitable print media. But this was outrageous.

“That headline made it sound like I was admitting to a crime. The article itself was full of factual inaccuracies that the Sunday Times have since admitted to,” he said.

“Misinterpreted? Either I said it or I didn’t. I didn’t, so there’s no interpretation necessary. What the Sunday Times unleashed was a tirade of hysterical accusations and insults on social media that had me branded everything from a Bill Cosby-type date-rapist to a white man who cost a black woman her job.

“It was all based on absolute nonsense, so all of it was totally unjustified. I don’t mind taking responsibility for things that I HAVE done or things that I HAVE said, but this was made up. I’ve never spiked anyone’s drink, let alone a colleague twice my age.”

“Our lawyers have asked for an unreserved apology and the Sunday Times are dragging their feet.”

Radio presenter and Idols judge Gareth Cliff has never been one to shy away from conflict.


The controversial radio personality and owner of CliffCentral, Gareth Cliff took aim at President Jacob Zuma after it emerged that the Hawks would be conducting an investigation into Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.

On his radio show, Gareth Cliff explained his theory behind why Pravin was now being scrutinised by the government.

“Can you believe this president of ours. What is wrong with this guy?” he asked as he opened the show on Wednesday.

He went on to explain why he was calling the president out. “You know the president has got this thing about state capture. His whole point now, his whole purpose now, he realises that the power is starting to slip away from him, so he’s on a massive greed binge. And his trying to get as much money out of the system as he can.”

Cliff boldly gave his theory on what he suspects the president is up to. “Mark these words because this is what’s gonna happen alright. The President is gonna take every cent he can, he’s already moving it all off shore. I’m not sure how, I don’t know the detail here but this is what I suspect is happening. This guy is busy raping the state owned enterprises as we speak of every last cent of cash that he can.”

He also took aim at the Guptas’, calling them Zuma’s "criminal friends".

"He’s got these criminal friends called the Guptas’. And I say criminal only because we’ve heard of ways and means that they’ve obtained contracts from government," he said. Adding that the Guptas’ live off shore yet still "send instructions to the president at the Union Buildings and he enacts those instructions."

Cliff summed up his suspicions saying that the president is going after the treasury, calling the the Minister of Finance "he’s big obstacle".

"Now I reckon what he’s doing is he sees after these elections he’s between a rock and a hard place, there’s a lot of pressure on him from within the ANC, so he’s gonna take what he can now and make a massive final gamble and target number one is the treasury cause that’s where the cash is. That’s the big bank he’s trying to rob."
