Comedian Charlie Murphy has died, TMZ reports. He was 57 years old. He died from leukemia, according to the report. Murphy’s acting career began in the 1980s. He gained wider recognition in the 2000s when he became a regular on “Chappelle’s Show.”
Murphy’s most iconic segment was called “Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories.” Among the sketches in the series was his retelling of a night where he, his brother Eddie Murphy, and their friends played a game of basketball and had pancakes with Prince at Paisley Park. In another memorable sketch, Murphy detailed an encounter with Rick James.
Following “Chappelle’s Show,” Murphy cowrote the 2007 film Norbit, which starred Eddie Murphy. He released his autobiography The Making of a Stand-Up Guy in 2011.
