Despite many people still being homophobic, there are many local celebrities who are out and proud.
Idols SA judge and choreographer, Somizi Mhlongo, is openly gay and not afraid to speak to his mind. "I tell it like it is … It comes from being in the township, being gay, and standing up for what I believe in from an early age. I’ve never been in the closet. Never. [So] I never came out. I’ve never denied my sexuality,” he told Sunday Times in 2015.
Earlier this year, while in an interview with rapper Slikour, the rapper was curious as to whether Somizi was once confused about his homosexuality, and asked, “are you really, really gay?”
“Slikour, that is the most stupid question; it is like asking are you really, really black?” Somizi replied.
Yesterday, Somizi took it upon himself to educate people about the different kinds of gay people in the world.
In a video posted on Instagram, he was at a restaurant and two gay men were sitting behind him. One of them was “different”, so he decided to explain to people all the kinds that are out there.
According to him, there are those who are “too much” and show it in the way they walk. Then there are those who are educated and have money.
There are also those who are “rachet” (nasty), and the ones who are forward, according to the choreographer.
