Although it is a world-wide and historic conviction that every woman wants to be married, a great many don't want marriage. Consciously or unconsciously, many of them spend a lifetime resisting it. Thandeka Nhleko explains why her relationship with Kaizer Chief legend Nkosinathi Nhleko failed.

Speaking to TrueLove Magazine in their October issue, the Reality TV star narrated that they met in year one at the university through her roommate’s boyfriend at a soccer match. The two married only six months after dating.

Thandeka shared that she was 19 and he was 23 and still playing for Jomo Cosmos at the time. She said they had a baby in the same year and another one the following year.

She said it was only after joining Diski Divas earlier this year, that she realized other footballers’ wives and girlfriends were going through the same struggle that she went through.

“As a footballer’s wife or girlfriend, you’re forced to share your husband with fans and groupies. He’s owned by them. When they demand his time, you’re pushed to the sidelines. I was fine with supporting him behind the scenes and letting him do his thing. I never wanted to latch onto his shine,” she told the magazine.

She also spoke about the “soccer wife” label and said it was never something she held in high regard. “I never held the ‘soccer wife’ label in high esteem. My priority in our marriage was to make sure our home was warm and welcoming when he came back from training or playing a match.”

But she eventually had enough. “After 14 years, I called it quits. I couldn’t take it any longer. Being married to a soccer player isn’t glamorous. That life comes with heartache and being cheated on and you having to hide that shame.”

She went on to say that “we had our good times”, it wasn’t all bad. But it wasn’t the life for her.
