Former SABC board member Hope Zinde's son has made his first appearance in court in connection with her death.
Mark Warona Zinde‚ believed to be 28‚ appeared briefly at the Brits Magistrate's Court‚ in North West‚ on Monday. The state told the court Zinde has been charged with murder and possession of drugs.
Magistrate Moses Maswanganyi postponed the case to Friday on request of the prosecution and Zinde's lawyer‚ MD Molusi.
Hope Zinde's passing shocked the country over the weekend.
Her body was reportedly found in the boot of her car at Pecanwood‚ an upmarket housing estate in Hartbeespoort.
A family friend apparently got worried when he failed to reach Zinde‚ 50‚ on her phone since Wednesday.
He is reported to have alerted the estate's security and police when Mark allegedly refused to allow him into the house.
Police subsequently found her body in the boot of her car and arrested her son. They said over the weekend that they found him in possession of an illegal substance.
Zinde was working for the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa at the time of her death.
A TV and radio journalist at the SABC from 1991 to 2006‚ she was appointed to the public broadcaster's board in 2013.
Communications Minister Faith Muthambi fired her along with colleagues Rachel Kalidass and Ronnie Lubisi for allegedly not supporting Hlaudi Motsoeneng's appointment as chief operations officer.
