Members of the Gupta family have reportedly taken up residence in one of Dubai's most expensive properties.
City Press reported on Sunday that the villa in Durbai's Emirates Hills had a listing price of 110 million dirham (R445 million) when it came on the market in March 2015, and was the most expensive house in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the time. It was reportedly advertised as "awaiting a VVIP... with deep pockets".
It has 10 bedrooms, 13 bathrooms, nine reception rooms and parking space for 11 vehicles. It is decorated in marble and gold and has a hand-painted dome.
The mansion is situated in one of Dubai's most expensive areas, and is extravagant even by Dubai's standards, according to City Press.
Members of the Gupta family left South Africa on a private jet a month ago, it was reported at the time.
Ajay and Atul Gupta left the country after resigning from Oakbay Investments and Oakbay Resources and Energy.
The family had come under increasing pressure following allegations that they influenced President Zuma's appointment of Mines Minister Mosebenzi Zwane and former finance minister Des van Rooyen, as well as offering ministerial posts to Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas and former ANC MP Vytjie Mentor, Fin24 reported.
South Africa's big four banks also cut ties with Gupta-owned businesses, which led to Cabinet ministers being tasked to intervene in the stand-off.
In early April, the Presidency rejected claims by EFF leader Julius Malema that President Jacob Zuma recently visited the UAE to drop off R6bn belonging to the Gupta family.
Meanwhile, the Mail & Guardian reported that the Guptas held an extravagant three-day long wedding for Ajay Gupta's son, Kamal Singhala Gupta, in Turkey during April. The previous family wedding, at Sun City, caused controversy when it emerged that a plane carrying guests from India had landed at Waterkloof Air Force base in Pretoria.
