PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma has called on communities to support everyone who wrote matrics last year, especially those who failed.

“Those who failed must never think this is the end of the road because it isn’t. I want to encourage them to explore the many opportunities provided, including rewriting or joining the vocational training route, adding to much needed technical skills in the country,” the president said.
Help is available for pupils at the Department of Basic Education’s toll-free number on 0800 202 933. The department is also launching the Second Chance matric programme to provide support for pupils who qualify to write supplementary exams for a maximum of two subjects, and those who failed to meet the requirements for the National Senior Certificate.
The department of social development has also made a 24-hour call centre available. Pupils can call 0800 428 428 toll-free to speak to a social worker or request one to contact them by dialling *120*7867# for free from any cellphone.
