Sandile Mantsoe is facing charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.
The 27-year-old forex trader was arrested after Mantsoe's charred remains discovered in Lyndhurst.
Magistrate Carlo Labuschagne delivered a lengthy explanation for his decision to deny Mantsoe bail.
The magistrate says that Mantsoe tried to convince the court that he was threatened to make an incriminating statement to the police.
Labuschagne says that the accused has not provided evidence that his case has special circumstances.
"The personal interests of the applicant are secondary and the interests of society and the proper and effective administration of the criminal justice system are supreme. The applicants bid to be released on bail is refused."
