Mantsoe, 27, revealed he had been married for two years and was now separated from his wife. They have three children together, the court heard at his bail application this afternoon.
Mantsoe’s court case was postponed to 7 June. The media has been barred from broadcasting, tweeting and publishing sensitive information from the court case. However both the state and defense have no objections to the judgement of the bail application being broadcast.
The state is opposing bail and has brought charges that Mantsoe killed Mokoena and destroyed her corpse to conceal evidence. He is facing a schedule 6 murder charge.
He is the main suspect in the murder case of Karabo Mokoena, his girlfriend of seven months. Mokoena’s body was found burnt beyond recognition almost two weeks ago after she was reported missing by family and friends on April 28.
Though her body was found on April 29, Mantsoe was arrested two weeks later. He has denied killing her, stating he found her corspe inside his apartment and proceeded to burn her body in a moment of panic.
In an interview with eNCA’s Checkpoint, friends and family of Mokoena said she was in an abusive relationship. Images of Mokoena’s battered face and legs, bruised eye and swollen forehead were broadcast.
